A spicy herb with a balsamic aroma. Contains vitamins B, A, C and PP, ascorbic acid, carotene, rutin and many minerals, including magnesium and iron. Rich in essential oils. Used in cooking as an aromatic seasoning for various meat and fish dishes, a frequent ingredient in salads, appetizers, soups and sauces. Also used for salting cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, porcini mushrooms. Green basil leaves are often added to alcoholic cocktails. One sprig weighs approximately 5 grams.
